Northern Ireland police faces £750k fine after exposing staff info

The ICO plans to impose a £750,000 fine on the Police Service of Northern Ireland after a spreadsheet published for an FOI request accidentally exposed personal details (surnames, initials, ranks, roles and locations) of 9,483 serving officers and staff. The ICO found inadequate internal procedures, judged the exposure to create grave physical risk to individuals, issued a preliminary enforcement notice requiring process improvements, and detectives are investigating unlawful dissemination while PSNI has accepted the findings and offered support and reimbursements.
