Microsoft unveils new 'Sudo for Windows' feature in Windows 11

Microsoft introduced Sudo for Windows, a Windows 11 Insider feature that lets users run elevated commands from unelevated terminals, offering configurable modes (new window, same window with input disabled, or inline) with UAC confirmation; it is a Windows-specific implementation rather than a port of Linux sudo and may require script adjustments. The feature is rolling out in Insider Build 26052, is not intended for Windows Server, and Microsoft plans to open-source it and expand documentation, including guidance on the security implications of the inline mode.
