Google rolls out Android theft protection feature updates

Google announced expanded Android anti-theft and recovery protections, including granular Failed Authentication Lock controls, broader Identity Check biometric enforcement across apps using Biometric Prompt, longer lockout times after failed attempts, and optional ownership challenges for Remote Lock. Theft Detection Lock and Remote Lock will be enabled by default on new devices in Brazil, recovery tools are available for Android 10+, and authentication safeguards require Android 16+. Google also broadened in-call scam protection support to more U.S. financial apps.
