FCC orders telecoms to secure their networks after Salt Tyhpoon hacks

The FCC has ordered U.S. telecommunications carriers to strengthen cybersecurity after the Salt Typhoon breaches, in which a China-linked hacking group compromised multiple telcos (including Verizon, AT&T, and Lumen), accessed law-enforcement wiretapping platforms, and exposed private communications of some U.S. government officials; the FCC adopted an immediate declaratory ruling under CALEA requiring carriers to secure networks and seek annual cybersecurity certifications while authorities consider further actions such as banning certain foreign carriers or devices.
