Ascension healthcare takes systems offline after cyberattack

Ascension, a major U.S. nonprofit healthcare system operating hospitals and senior care facilities, detected unusual activity on select network systems on May 8 and has taken some systems offline while investigating. Clinical operations were disrupted, Mandiant was engaged to assist, and partners were instructed to temporarily sever connections; the organization has not publicly confirmed the nature of the compromise, data loss, or the attackers involved.
