PowerSchool hacker claims they stole data of 62 million students

PowerSchool disclosed a cyberattack in which a threat actor used stolen credentials to access the PowerSource support portal and leveraged a maintenance tool to download data from PowerSIS databases; the attacker claimed to have exfiltrated data for ~62.5 million students and ~9.5 million teachers (including some SSNs and medical/grade data) and made extortion demands, with PowerSchool reportedly paying a ransom and offering identity/credit monitoring while investigations by CrowdStrike continue.
