Microsoft announced enhancements to Defender’s privacy protection (Defender VPN), which now automatically detects and alerts users of unsafe or unsecure Wi‑Fi and can be configured to auto-enable the VPN for protection against threats like Evil Twin and Man‑in‑the‑Middle attacks. The feature is available on Android, iOS, and Windows (macOS coming), with expanded support and rollout to Germany and Canada and more countries to follow. Microsoft states it does not collect browsing data, but gathers anonymized usage and potentially malicious SSID information (with consent) for threat research.
