Contractors with hacking records accused of wiping 96 govt databases

U.S. prosecutors allege that twin former federal contractors Muneeb and Sohaib Akhter accessed and deleted approximately 96 government databases in February 2025, stole sensitive IRS and EEOC records (including identifying information for at least 450 people), attempted to prevent others from modifying targeted databases before deletion, sought AI instructions to clear system logs, and wiped devices and evidence; both have been indicted on multiple counts including computer fraud, destruction of records, and aggravated identity theft.
