Microsoft confirmed that January 2025 Windows security updates (including KB5050009, KB5049981, KB5050008, KB5049993) can break audio on systems using USB Audio Class 1.0 DACs, leading to playback failures and Device Manager Code 10 errors. The root cause is under investigation; the current workaround is to connect audio devices directly without an external DAC. A similar issue on Windows 24H2 affects Creative Sound BlasterX G6 USB DACs, while Microsoft also recently addressed unrelated compatibility blocks and a Windows Server 2022 startup bug.
