Microsoft announced the deprecation of DirectAccess and advises organizations to migrate to Always On VPN, which supports modern protocols (IKEv2, SSTP), MFA, app/service-based VPN usage, and both domain-joined and non-domain-joined devices. While the removal date is not finalized, Microsoft provides a phased migration guide covering certificate issuance, PowerShell deployment, Intune management, monitoring with Endpoint Configuration Manager, and post-migration tasks such as removing the DirectAccess role, updating DNS, and decommissioning from AD DS.
