Coupang disclosed a large-scale data breach discovered in mid-November stemming from unauthorized access beginning June 24, which exposed names, email addresses, physical addresses, and order information for approximately 33.7 million customers. The prime suspect is an ex-IT employee who retained access and copies of data; law enforcement recovered the suspect’s devices (including a hard drive and a discarded MacBook Air) with support from Mandiant, Palo Alto Networks, and Ernst & Young. Coupang plans to distribute ~₩1.685 trillion (~$1.17B) in vouchers to affected users as remediation and the national police have taken over the investigation.
