Allstate car insurer sued for tracking drivers without permission

Texas AG Ken Paxton sued Allstate and its data unit Arity, alleging they covertly harvested and monetized granular driving and location data from over 45 million Americans via the Arity SDK embedded in popular apps (e.g., Life360, GasBuddy, Fuel Rewards, Routely) and data purchased from automakers, then used it to influence insurance pricing and sold it to other insurers. The complaint cites violations of the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, the Data Broker Law, and the Texas Insurance Code, seeking civil penalties, restitution, data destruction, and injunctive relief. Arity responded that its practices are transparent and lawful with user consent.
