Man sentenced for hacking state registry to fake his own death

A Kentucky man was sentenced to federal prison after using stolen credentials to access the Hawaii Death Registry and other government and corporate systems to falsely register his own death, commit identity theft, apply for financial accounts with a false SSN, and offer stolen access for sale on dark web markets; damages are estimated at about $195,750 and he faces incarceration and supervised release.
