Marquis data breach impacts over 74 US banks, credit unions

Marquis Software Solutions suffered a ransomware attack on 14 August 2025 after attackers breached a SonicWall VPN/firewall, resulting in the theft of personal information (including names, addresses, SSNs, dates of birth, and financial account details) for roughly 400,000 customers across 74 banks and credit unions; the Akira ransomware group is suspected, a ransom payment was reportedly made in at least one filing, Marquis has implemented firewall/VPN hardening and other controls, and so far the company reports no evidence the stolen data has been misused or published.
