Proton launches free standalone cross-platform Authenticator app

Proton has launched Proton Authenticator, a free privacy-focused, open-source two-factor authentication app for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS that generates time-based one-time passwords (TOTPs). The announcement highlights end-to-end encryption, secure cross-device syncing, export/import of TOTP seeds, automatic encrypted backups, and app locking with biometrics or PINs, and positions the product as a privacy-respecting alternative to closed-source authenticators.
