Two former employees of incident response firms Sygnia and DigitalMint pleaded guilty and were sentenced after acting as affiliates for the BlackCat (ALPHV) ransomware gang, breaching multiple U.S. companies between May and November 2023, extorting victims (including a Tampa medical device company that paid $1.27M), and sharing ransom proceeds; the FBI has previously linked BlackCat to dozens of breaches and hundreds of millions in ransom payments.
