Apple and Google add alerts for unknown Bluetooth trackers to iOS, Android

Apple and Google have introduced a joint specification, Detecting Unwanted Location Trackers, rolling out in iOS 17.5 and Android 6.0+, that alerts users when an unknown Bluetooth tracker is moving with them. The feature displays the tracker’s identifier, can play a sound to help locate it, and provides steps to disable it; AirTag and compatible third-party devices support it now, though older trackers that don’t implement the spec may still evade detection.
