### Executive summary: Microsoft resolved an issue introduced by the April 2026 Windows security updates that could cause systems with an unrecommended BitLocker Group Policy configuration to boot into BitLocker recovery and require recovery keys. The fix (KB5089549) is available for Windows 11 25H2; Windows 10 and Windows Server customers must wait for a forthcoming update. Administrators are advised to remove the "Configure TPM platform validation profile for native UEFI firmware configurations" Group Policy or ensure BitLocker uses the PCR7 profile before deploying the April updates to avoid recovery prompts.
