Canada says hacktivists breached water and energy facilities

The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security warns that hacktivists have repeatedly breached internet-exposed Industrial Control Systems across multiple sectors (water treatment, oil & gas, agriculture), altering pressures, gauges, and environmental sensors to cause disruptions and create safety risks; the alert calls the activity opportunistic, recommends removing direct internet exposure, implementing VPNs with 2FA, patching ICS firmware, performing vulnerability management and penetration testing, and reporting incidents for coordinated response.
