Over 1,000 arrested in massive ‘Serengeti’ anti-cybercrime operation

Operation Serengeti was a coordinated INTERPOL/Afripol operation (Sept 2–Oct 31) that led to 1,006 arrests in 19 African countries and disrupted 134,089 malicious infrastructures tied to ransomware, business email compromise, digital extortion and online scams; investigators linked at least 35,224 victims to nearly $193 million in losses and recovered roughly $44 million, with regional actions ranging from dismantled Ponzi schemes and online casinos to large-scale credit card and investment fraud.
