FinCEN's analysis of Bank Secrecy Act reports covering January 2022–December 2024 found 4,194 ransomware incidents and more than $2.1 billion in ransom payments (approximately $4.5 billion tracked since 2013), with manufacturing, financial services, and healthcare among the most affected sectors; the report highlights that a small number of ransomware families (notably Akira, ALPHV/BlackCat, and LockBit) account for a large share of incidents and payments and notes that law enforcement actions against major gangs corresponded with a drop in payments in 2024.
