Biden signs executive order to bolster national cybersecurity

President Biden issued an executive order aimed at bolstering U.S. cybersecurity by expanding sanction authorities against malicious cyber-enabled activities (including ransomware actors), enhancing protection of critical infrastructure, improving the security and integrity of federal software and communications, promoting secure AI, adopting digital identity to combat fraud, and aligning agency investments to strengthen controls. The order builds on prior directives from 2015 and the Biden Administration’s 2021–2022 memoranda, signaling a stronger deterrent posture against state-backed and criminal threats, particularly from the PRC.
