Ransomware rakes in record-breaking $450 million in first half of 2024

Chainalysis' mid-year 2024 analysis shows ransomware payments reached approximately $459.8M in H1 2024, with the median ransom climbing to about $1.5M and a record ~$75M payment attributed to the Dark Angels; confirmed ransomware incidents rose ~10% YoY even as the total number of payment events fell and stolen cryptocurrency inflows doubled to $1.58B, indicating attackers are focusing on fewer but much higher-value targets.
