Microsoft acknowledges that recent Edge updates (v123.0.2420.65+) inadvertently install an MSIX package called “Microsoft chat provider for Copilot in Windows,” causing a Copilot app entry to appear on Windows 10/11 and Server 2022 systems; the component cannot launch Copilot, executes no code, and collects no data, and Microsoft will remove it from devices where Copilot is not intended. The company is also experimenting with Start menu ads in Windows 11 to promote Microsoft Store apps.
