Google has begun rolling out an AI-powered ransomware detection and file restoration feature for Google Drive desktop on Windows and macOS that automatically pauses syncing of affected files when it detects signs of ransomware. The feature leverages a specialized model trained on millions of ransomware samples, incorporates threat intelligence from VirusTotal, and enables users and admins to restore files via Drive's web interface; it is enabled by default for many Workspace tiers (admins may disable it) and requires Drive version 114+ for alerts. Google states it does not use customer data to train its generative models.
