The 360° CIO is here. Most operating models have not caught up

**Executive summary:** This article argues that many digital initiatives fail not from lack of capability but from misalignment between the expanded 360° responsibilities of the CIO and the organization's decision-making, governance, and accountability structures; it recommends redesigning role definitions, investment governance, and cross-organizational integration so CIOs can effectively act as central integrators of strategy, technology, and execution.
