5 reasons why the tech industry is failing women

The report highlights persistent retention problems for women in technology, noting that only 38% of women who majored in computer science work in the field (versus 53% of men), a ‘‘leaky pipeline’’ effect, and that women leave tech at 45% higher rates than men. It also cites that 50% of women leave tech by age 35 compared to 20% in other industries, and that during 2022 mass tech layoffs women were disproportionately affected (WTN study reporting ~69% female employees among impacted profiles), with women 1.6 times more likely to face layoffs and 57% planning to leave within two years due to poor work–life balance.
