IBM, Arm team up to bring Arm software to IBM Z mainframes

IBM is positioning its AI infrastructure around multi-year hardware cycles and GPU-native deployments: Spyre has reached general availability about 12–18 months after its Hot Chips reveal, and IBM announced an expanded collaboration with Nvidia to offer Blackwell Ultra GPUs on IBM Cloud in early Q2 2026 for large-scale AI training and inference. IBM views GPU-heavy environments as the primary path for large-scale AI, while Arm compatibility may bring newer stacks closer to mainframes but is not expected to redefine the core enterprise AI strategy.
