The sustainability blind spot CIOs can’t ignore

This article argues that enterprise sustainability initiatives should extend beyond data centers to include edge devices (cameras, sensors, access control systems), which often run continuously and account for a large portion of lifecycle energy use; it advocates measuring and optimizing edge energy consumption through efficient hardware, intelligent software (e.g., compression and on-device processing), hybrid cloud/edge architectures, and cloud-enabled lifecycle management to reduce emissions and operational costs.
