Operation Winter SHIELD: FBI Issues Call to Arms for Organizations to Improve Cybersecurity

The FBI announced Operation Winter SHIELD as part of its SHIELD cyber resilience campaign, detailing ten priority actions over ten weeks to help organizations harden IT/OT environments and reduce attack surface; aligned with the US National Cyber Strategy and developed with domestic and international partners using insights from recent investigations, the guidance emphasizes phish-resistant authentication, risk-based vulnerability management, scheduled retirement of end-of-life tech, third-party risk management, protecting and retaining logs, offline immutable backups with tested restoration, securing internet-facing systems, stronger email authentication and malicious content protections, least-privilege administration, and exercising incident response with all stakeholders.
