#BHUSA: Nation-State Attacks Target Hardware Supply Chains

HP Wolf Security reports survey findings that nation-state actors are increasingly targeting physical device supply chains (PCs, laptops, printers), with 19% of 803 IT/security leaders reporting impacts, 91% expecting such attacks, 35% observing attempts to implant malicious hardware/firmware, and 63% anticipating a major attack via poisoned hardware supply chains; the report recommends adopting Platform Certificate-based integrity verification, securely managing and enabling firmware configurations from the factory, and continuously monitoring hardware/firmware compliance across device fleets, based on a survey conducted Feb 22–Mar 5, 2024 across the US, Canada, UK, Japan, Germany, and France.
