Europol Calls for Stronger Data Laws to Combat Cybercrime

Europol’s 4th Annual Cybercrime Conference 2025 in The Hague convened ~500 participants to address the challenge of enabling lawful access to digital evidence while protecting privacy and digital rights. Keynotes emphasized EU-wide coordination, stronger Europol mandates, and cross-border data sharing, with discussions spanning policy, cyber diplomacy, and tech-driven prevention. Case studies included disrupting pro-Russian hacktivist activity (Operation Eastwood) and the arrest of a cybercrime platform administrator (Operation Ratatouille). A preceding ENISA co-organized CSIRT workshop highlighted technical cooperation and information sharing to bolster European digital resilience.
