Over a Quarter of Identity Crime Victims Hit by Multiple Incidents, ITRC Data Shows

The Identity Theft Resource Center's 2026 Trends in Identity Report shows rising complexity in identity crimes: about 26% of victims experienced two or more concurrent incidents, unauthorized device/PC access surged (27% of incidents, +78% year-over-year) and account takeovers accounted for 50% of misuse cases. The report highlights higher risk for adults 35–64 from device compromises, significant recovery friction (low resolution rates when financial loss occurs), and the cross-functional challenges organizations face in responding to and remediating identity fraud.
