Experts Welcome Global Cybersecurity Vulnerability Enumeration Launch

A new European-led Global Cybersecurity Vulnerability Enumeration (GCVE) initiative has launched as an open, decentralized alternative to the US CVE program, enabling GCVE Numbering Authorities to independently assign identifiers and aggregate data from 25+ sources via a platform hosted by CIRCL. Security experts welcome the move for improving resilience, speed, and innovation in vulnerability management, while emphasizing compatibility with CVE to avoid confusion. The effort also responds to concerns about the CVE program’s funding stability and ability to keep pace with a fast-moving threat landscape, alongside the emergence of a separate European Vulnerability Database initiative.
