Cyber-Attacks Surge 63% Annually in Education Sector

Quorum Cyber’s 2026 Global Cyber Risk Outlook for Higher Education reports a 63% rise in recorded incidents (425 incidents across 67 countries in Nov 2024–Oct 2025 versus 260 the prior year), with data breaches up 73%, hacktivism up 75% and ransomware up 21%; universities face nation-state theft of high-value research and persistent financially motivated groups such as FunkSec, Cl0p, INC and Nova. The report recommends intelligence-led vulnerability management, dark web monitoring, robust offline backups, regular incident response exercises, strong password management and social-engineering defenses.
