North Korea Steals Over $2bn in Crypto in 2025

Chainalysis reports that North Korean state-linked threat actors remain the dominant crypto threat, amassing over $6.7bn cumulatively and stealing a record $2bn+ in 2025 — including a $1.5bn Bybit heist — by targeting large services and increasingly embedding IT workers to gain privileged access; laundering activity favors Chinese-language services, cross-chain bridges, mixers and platforms like Huione. The report also notes a surge in personal wallet thefts (158,000 incidents in 2025) with more victims but smaller amounts stolen per person.
