WhatsApp has asked a US court to hold the Israeli spyware firm NSO Group in contempt, alleging it violated a permanent injunction by running social-engineering/phishing efforts tied to its Pegasus spyware. WhatsApp said it disrupted malicious links and test accounts, published domains used in the alleged phishing campaign, and reiterated that NSO — previously ordered to pay over $167M for hacking ~1,400 users and placed on the US Entity List — continues to pose a risk to activists, journalists, diplomats and the wider secure-communications ecosystem.
