Police Scotland Fined After Sharing Victim’s Phone Data

Police Scotland was fined £66,000 and reprimanded after an ICO investigation found the force had extracted and wrongly disclosed the entire contents of a detective constable’s phone—including medical records, intimate photos and contacts—to an officer she accused of rape; the ICO ruled the force failed to apply appropriate organisational and technical measures, failed to minimise data sharing, and did not report the breach within the required timeframe.
