CISA Unveils Election Security Plan Ahead of 2026 Midterms

CISA published an Election Infrastructure Security Plan (Sept 24) that outlines cyber and physical risks to election systems—notably vulnerability exploitation, statewide voter registration database breaches, and insider threats—and prescribes mitigations such as harmonized patching and certification, MFA and phishing-resistant access to VRDBs, paper-ballot use, chain-of-custody controls, continuous monitoring, and deployment of CISA’s no-cost cybersecurity services.
