Residential Proxies in the Wild

Infoblox analyzed billions of DNS resolutions and associated telemetry and found that over 65% of its Threat Defense Cloud customers queried domains associated with residential proxy services (growing to >500 billion queries/month), highlighting widespread presence across industries and significant security risks—IP laundering, bypassing of fraud controls, and potential unauthorized proxyware on user devices. The report catalogs prominent proxy providers, notes anomalous spikes around an IPIDEA takedown, and recommends Protective DNS, log review, inventory of apps/extensions/IoT, and blocking suspicious/residential-proxy domains.
