Cognitive Dissonance in Cybersecurity

This article argues that cognitive dissonance—the gap between what security leaders believe about their posture and the operational reality—is a major strategic vulnerability exploited by ransomware actors; it documents common dangerous narratives (we're not a target, controls suffice, backups guarantee recovery, training equals security) and recommends adversary-focused testing, validated recovery exercises, and an honest reporting culture to close the gap and build true resilience.
