Runtime analysis of Windows Phone 7 Applications

This document describes a technique and tool (“XAP Spy”) for performing runtime analysis of Windows Phone 7 applications by instrumenting apps to log method names and variables to the emulator console and hooking the WriteFile API to capture execution/data-flow traces, addressing the platform’s lack of attachable debugging. It outlines requirements (Windows Phone SDK, .NET Framework 2.0/4.0, EasyHook) and provides demo, binaries, source code, and an update for SDK 7.1.
