Why GenAI fails at full SOC automation

This article examines why generative AI is not yet capable of delivering a fully autonomous SOC, highlighting unresolved enterprise data consolidation, security tool integration challenges, costly continuous training, and LLM limitations (including hallucinations and lack of explainability). Analysts from Forrester and Gartner, along with security leaders, advise starting small and using AI to augment human analysts—improving MTD/MTR/MTC via alert enrichment, scoring, summarization, and playbook acceleration—while maintaining approval workflows, piloting in limited scopes, and ensuring foundational controls are in place before scaling automation.
