Analysis of 1,123 legitimate websites hijacked to host spam pages that redirect users to fake antivirus pages; most compromised sites did not run common dynamic CMS (WordPress, Joomla!, etc.), implying attackers likely used stolen admin credentials or exploited shared hosting platform compromises. The report shows a high concentration of hijacked sites on certain hosting providers (notably Endurance International Group and Bluehost) and warns that keeping site software updated is not sufficient without selecting secure hosting.
