Facebook Marketplace scam uses your name and number

Attackers are sending fabricated Facebook Marketplace listings that list the message recipient as the seller (a "conversation lure") to provoke replies and confirm live phone numbers. The report suggests attackers may combine breached name/phone pairs with AI to automate this at scale, enabling resale of verified numbers and downstream fraud, account takeover, or malware deployment. Recommended mitigations include limiting public information, not responding to unsolicited messages, verifying senders via alternate channels, checking Facebook account security and impersonation reports, and using scam-detection tools.
