Developer verification: a promised lift for Android security

Google is introducing a global 'Developer verification' program requiring all apps installed on certified Android devices to be registered by verified developers to reduce malware from sideloaded sources (citing 50x higher risk than Google Play); after Play Store’s Aug 31, 2023 D-U-N-S requirement, invitations begin Oct 2025, open to all in Mar 2026, with initial enforcement in Sept 2026 across Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand before global rollout, and minimal change for Play-only developers.
