Warning over free online file converters that actually install malware

The FBI Denver and Malwarebytes warn that scammy online file-conversion websites distribute hidden malware (adware, browser hijackers, info-stealers and potentially ransomware) by prompting users to download conversion tools or browser extensions or by embedding malware in converted files; the report lists example malicious domains and recommends user education, active anti-malware, changing passwords on a clean device, contacting financial institutions, and reporting incidents to IC3.
