Background check provider data breach affects 3 million people who may not have heard of the company

DISA Global Solutions disclosed that an unauthorized third party accessed its environment between February 9 and April 22, 2024, potentially exposing more than three million files of personal information—including Social Security Numbers—for customers of its employment screening services; the company is investigating with forensic experts, notifying affected individuals, and offering 12 months of Experian credit monitoring and identity restoration. The report notes possible misuse risks such as targeted phishing and extortion but states there is currently no known attempted or actual misuse.
