USDA Adopts FIDO For Phishing-Resistant MFA Security

The USDA implemented Fast IDentity Online (FIDO) phishing-resistant MFA to secure diverse personnel—including seasonal workers and staff who cannot use PIV cards—by integrating FIDO with Microsoft Entra ID, Windows Hello for Business, FIPS-validated security keys, and the agency's centralized ICAM and HR systems to protect Windows logins, Microsoft 365, VPN, and SSO across hundreds of applications; the rollout aligns with federal Zero Trust guidance and offers implementation lessons for other organizations.
