Former WhatsApp security boss in lawsuit likens Meta’s culture to a “cult”

The complaint alleges that Meta/WhatsApp suffered widespread security and data governance failures: whistleblower Mohsin Baig claims engineers had improper access to user data, the company failed to inventory and monitor user data or detect breaches, and security reports were falsified to hide unremediated exfiltration risks. The filing asserts that in 2022 roughly 100,000 WhatsApp accounts were taken over daily (rising to 400,000), and that an estimated 400 million user profiles were scraped each day, enabling impersonation scams and account compromise.
